BEN: HOW TO BE CLOSE TO HIM!
Tiger Beat Super Annual, September 1971

HOW TO TURN HIM ON:

Have good vibes! Good vibrations are hard to explain but that's what turns him on about a girl. He doesn't really give much thought to her beauty (but he prefers a slick chick to a fat lass). Ben digs good vibes. He enjoys a girl who thinks good thoughts about people and things. He likes a girl who can walk into a room and say to herself, "Here's a roomful of 30 friends" instead of groaning, "Oh no, 30 strangers I don't like." Kind actions and beautiful thoughts speak louder than words to Ben. Good vibes mean good dates.

HOW TO TURN HIM OFF:

Uptightness turns Ben off in a flash. If a girl spends much time worrying about her hair, her beauty, her personality or anything else, Ben says, "Forget it." He just wants to have a relaxed, comfortable time and he can't do that with Miss Uptight, 1971. A city girl isn't exactly Ben's cup of tea, either. He likes the country-type girl who appreciates baby lambs, grape vines and the four seasons of the year. If a girl grew her own spices, then cooked him a dinner, he'd be hooked for life! Ben's just that type of guy!

HOW HE SPENDS HIS FREE TIME:

Bumming around takes up a lot of Ben's spare hours. If someone sent him to the grocery store --only a half block away, Ben would get there by taking a three mile out-of-the-way walk. He loves to just wander around talking to people and looking in shops or hiking in the country. If he weren't an actor, he'd probably be a vagabond and see the world with a knapsack on his back. He loves it when a girl will wander around with him but most of the time, he finds girls complain that their feet hurt or they're tired. And that's no fun at all for Ben!

HOW TO WRITE HIM THE "PERFECT" FAN LETTER:

Ben is a very visual person. He prefers looking at things to reading about them. So if you write him a fan letter, be certain to draw a bright picture and if you can, send him your message with a drawing instead of words. If you're truly creative, you could make him a short film or send him a tape recorded message. Ben doesn't like expensive things-even letters -so keep your message inexpensive or he'd feel bad.

WHERE TO FIND HIM:

You'll find him most of the time locked in the same Universal studio as Pete Duel. Ben eats at the studio commissary most of the time, so you might see him if you toured there. Otherwise, you can often find him at a little health food restaurant just down the road, having a vegetable juice cocktail for lunch. In his spare hours, you'll find him on skis-water skis or snow skis-either in the mountains, at a lake or in the ocean. He prefers to snow ski but that presents a problem in California because there's usually no snow.

PEOPLE HE'S CLOSEST TO:

Ben feels closest, at times, to his tennis partners. Does that sound crazy to you? Well, it's not. He loves the feeling of competition but also the feeling that you're working together to maintain a game. That's why he plays tennis with his closest friends. Most of them are fellow actors or friends of fellow actors. Often they're girls who love dawn and dusk and are probably people he met on blind dates (he loves them). Ben maintains his close friendships by talking on the telephone!
