  1. Excerpt from Mark Twain's Life on the Mississippi, published in 1874. This was kindly prepared by Brendacious, so that we could understand what Heyes was reading in the episode "Something to Get Hung About." It has been left in Microsoft Word format (as Brendacious provided) so that it would be more readable. You'll need Microsoft Word to open this.
  2. AS&J Shooting Call Sheets for the Pilot, October, 1970. These are large scans of 6 pages (front and back) and will take a while to load. These sheets belonged to Dennis Fimple (who played Kyle on AS&J). Scans of them were kindly provided to us by his son Chris.

  30. "Grandma Curry comes to town...Oops, it's Walter Brennan", TV Guide, September 4, 1971. He must have changed his mind about the last appearance, because Walter Brennan went on to guest star in another second season episode, "21 Days to Tenstrike" (which was filmed the first week of December 1971). According to the Internet Movie Database, he also appeared in two more movies before his death on September 21, 1974 of emphysema.

  41. "Una Nueva Serie De Television "Los Dos Mosqueteros", Lecturas, 31.3.72, no. 1041. Thanks to Ana for sending this. The Curry photo was a little dark, so I replaced it with the same photo that was sent by Debbie.

  63. Excerpt from "The Grapevine", SPEC 16 Magazine, August 1972.

  72. "Next Week ROGER DAVIS Will Appear on the Small Screen, the Third Musketeer in Search of an Amnesty", unknown Spanish magazine, 1972. Translation of the above Spanish article, courtesy of Elaine. This is a very interesting article with a deceptive title. Very little is said in it about the recast. Instead, this is primarily a discussion of the show from a Spanish viewpoint. Pete's movie Cannon for Cordoba, which is mentioned disparagingly here, was filmed in Spain in 1969.
  73. "Life is Always Hard Among the Losers on TV", TV Channels, The Washington Post, October 29, 1972. Focuses on the tough competition that AS&J faced for ratings in the US. Here's a better version of the Pete photo shown in the article.

  102. "Alias Smith and Jones", Television Age, Aal [sic] About "Alias Smith and Jones" (Japanese), issue 3, March 1978. This is the cover and title page.
  103. "The Fact Sheet & Series Concept of 'Alias Smith & Jones'", Television Age, Aal [sic] About "Alias Smith and Jones" (Japanese), issue 3, March 1978.
  104. "Episode Guide", Television Age, Aal [sic] About "Alias Smith and Jones" (Japanese), issue 3, March 1978."
  105. "Alias Smith and Jones", Television Age, All About "Alias Smith and Jones" (Japanese), issue 4, April 1978. This is the cover and title page. The cover photo is from the 1970 movie Cannon for Cordoba.

  110. "Ninety Minute Movies, 49 made-for-TV features from MCA TV", announcement for the release of "The Day They Hanged Kid Curry" as a TV movie, 1979. Includes a description, photos, sample ads, and music cue sheets. The description, which is from the summer of 1971, says that Sam Jaffe will play Soapy Saunders. There must have been a last minute casting change because, in the actual show, Walter Brennan played Silky O'Sullivan. Note that there is a frequently used piece of music entitled "Bath Time".
  111. "Glen A. Larson - the man with the Midas touch", The Fall Guy Annual, 1983. A short item about AS&J's creator and producer. Thanks to Paul.
  112. "Sympathieke boeven rijden weer: 'Alias Smith and Jones'", Veronica, June 1, 1985. This is from a Dutch TV paper. Thanks to Nancy, we now have the English translation. The title in English is "Sympathetic Outlaws Ride Again: 'Alias Smith and Jones'".
  113. "Alias Smith and Jones", unknown UK book, date unknown. Thanks to Ana. This exaggerates the role of Sally Field, but that's to be expected from a source that says they have a deal with the Governor of Kansas. Note that in the leaning-at-post photo Heyes and Curry have slightly different facial expressions than in other similar photos (photo 1 and photo 2) on the website.
  117. Alias Smith & Jones, Encore Programs Ad, date unknown (probably mid-1990s).
  118. "Alias Smith & Jones", Classic TV Westerns, 1994. Thanks to Ana. The photos were dark xerox copies, therefore, where possible I replaced them with the same photos from other sources.
  119. "Smith and Jones: the cowboy years", Independent, December 30, 1994. This is from a weekly newspaper in the UK.
  120. Riding the Video Range: The Rise and Fall of the Western on Television, by Gary A. Yoggy, 1995, pp 471-484. Very interesting and thorough, although with numerous inaccuracies. The book, which can be purchased over the Internet from Amazon, contains 702 pages of great stuff about all TV Westerns.
  121. "Remember This?", Daily Mail, January 11, 1997. From a British newspaper.
  122. "Buried Treasure", RadioTimes, April 19-25, 1997. Thanks to Thorne.
  123. "Last of the Loveable Cowboys", Coffee Break Page, Daily Mail, 26 August 1997. Thanks to Jacquie.
  124. "Special Report: TV Westerns", Cult TV, June 1998. From Ana and Thorne. The pre-Maverick discussion is missing, but the important and interesting text (AS&J, of course) is here. The last graphic may take a while to load, but it should be worth the wait. Doesn't this writer have a way with words!
  125. "Dennis Fimple: Character Actor", Variety, September 5, 2002. Thanks to Jo.
